Clare

Clare is a county in the Shannon Region on the west coast of Ireland. Located in the province of Munster, the diverse land and sea scapes of Clare offer a wealth of natural attractions. The county is a historical and cultural hub and there are numerous monuments and historical sites to visit. Among some of the more well known sites are the Cliffs of Moher, Bunratty Castly, the Burren, the River Shannon and Lough Derg.

The principal county town is Ennis, a busy market town on the River Fergus and it is a good base from which to explore the county. The county is famed for its traditional music sessions which can be found in any of the towns and villages throughout the county, including Doolin, Fanore, Lisdoonvarna and Ennistymon.

The wild and rugged landscape along the coast has been shaped by the Atlantic Ocean, while further inland the county is a mix of lush green fields and hills and rocky outcrops. Visitors can relax and enjoy the stunning scenery while mingling with the locals, famed for their friendly and welcoming nature. For the more energetic, there are plenty of activities to keep busy from angling, swimming and surfing on one of the county’s many beaches to hiking, rock climbing, horse riding and golfing.
