Roscommon is a land-locked county in the north-west of Ireland in the province of Connacht and was once ruled by the legendary Queen Maebh. Although land-locked, the county is three-quarters bounded by water, by the River Shannon and Lough Ree to the east, the River Suck to the west and Lough Key to the north.
Roscommon is a relatively undiscovered county but boasts a rich history including Boyle Abbey, the ruins of Roscommon Castle and Drumanone Dolmen. The county also has beautiful scenery with forest parks, fertile farmland and undulating hills. The numerous lakes and of course the River Shannon make Roscommon a haven for lovers of watersports. Cruising the waterways is particularly popular and is a great way of exploring the county and taking in the unspoilt landscape. Opportunities for fishing and angling are plentiful as Roscommon has several well developed coarse fisheries with access to rivers and lakes.
