Mayo

Located on Ireland’s west coast in the province of Connacht, County Mayo is the third largest county in Ireland. The county boasts the longest coastline in Ireland. Mayo is home to many unique attractions from stunning mountain scenery and its unspoilt coastline to the top class museums located around the county. Alone Mayo is home to over 3,000 historical and archaeological sites.

Mayo offers an abundance of unique sites and attractions including Croagh Patrick, the Céide Fields and Westport House. The county is also well known for its selection of outdoor sports and there is something to suit every taste including angling, walking, cycling, surfing and golfing.

Castlebar is the county town of Mayo and is located in the centre of the county. Traditionally a market town, it is one of the busiest retail centres in the west of Ireland, second only to Galway City. Other important towns include Ballina and Westport, and each offer the visitor a unique slice of Mayo life. Many towns in Mayo have a large number of festivals and events along with live traditional music.
