Connacht is the western province of Ireland comprising counties Galway, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo. Although Ireland’s smallest province, Connacht is rich in history and culture and contains some of the most beautiful and unspoilt landscape in the country, particularly in the Connemara region to the west of Galway.
As the least populated province in Ireland, Connacht is a place where the relaxed pace of Irish life can truly be appreciated and savoured. Throughout history, the province has retained its rich Irish heritage and traditions, and today there are pockets including Connemara and the Aran Islands where the Irish language is still spoken as the primary language.
Connacht has plenty of visitor attractions including Kyelmore Abbey and Connemara, the Céide Fields, the Aran Islands and Achill Island and its extensive coastline provide countless opportunities for water lovers to indulge in a wide variety of activities. The vast open spaces and rugged landscape are havens for lovers of the outdoors and visitors can experience everything from walking and hiking to cycling, golfing and horse riding.
